 rant The world is full of haters, ignorant bastards, Catholics, skinheads, Republicans, and all sorts of other selfish idiots. Remember, you've got no handle on the truth. You've got nothing. You're only borrowing this dust. Death will take you. You will grow old, you will lose your eyes. You will lose control of your body. You will crumble. You will end. Your hands will twitch and hurt, and your blood will grow thin or clotted. Your legs will stop working, and you will forget what it is to walk without pain. Your heart will stop, your guts will gasp one ..... IK BEN EEN MIETJE ... gargle and it's goodbye goner. Silly? Only if you want it to be that way. It's a lot less silly in the blank white room of the hospital, kept alone by policy, away from the friends and relatives you need most in the vulnerability of old age. You'll be feeble and useless and no one will want you. What good will your hate and prejudice do you then? People spend so much time thinking they've got the answers. Holy @#%$. You do not have the answers! Get that part straight. Want to hear more? I'll tell you more. You make your way in this world, and you see things. Beer bottles lying on the ground, cars with the windows rolled up, wind blowing leaves around in spirals, children crying, children laughing, sunlight heating water and animals cooling in the water, birds flying, cars colliding, mountains sinking, smoking, rising. You see trees that have lived for centuries still growing, and saplings from ..... IK BEN EEN MIETJE ... spring putting out their first mature leaves. You don't understand one single thing as fully as the thing itself. Explaining the bug to the bug? Why, the bug can't explain itself. It has no great reason for being here, and yet it relishes the experience, I'm sure. Next time you walk by a plant, and see a spider. Pick it up with a plastic cup. Recycle the cup later. Don't worry; it won't bite if you're careful and pick the right spider. Most don't anyhow. Put it on a different plant, with more bugs on it. The spider might very well offer up a prayer of thanks to the gigantic being who freed it from hunger. What do you know? You're dust. You've no right to a solitary opinion, so stop spouting the bullshit and the whining and the prayers. Don't shout yourself hoarse. Don't do anything but look at the stars. Don't fret about your appearance, especially if you aren't willing to change it. Study. Learn about things bigger than yourself. Try to know. At the very least, better yourself. Perfection is a chimera, but you don't have to be one. Be real. Be interested. Be interesting. Don't assume everyone different is going to Hell. Instead try and figure out how you came to believe in such a stupid idea in the first place. Tell me, where is Hell? Did your religion maybe steal it from an older religion? Did the religion yours descended from have a Hell? If not, why? If so, what the @#%$? And what about Heaven? Are you ready to die and listen to the jangling of harps for the rest of eternity? Does a giant temperamental @#%$ determine everything you've ever done and will ever do? Are there actually angels, despite the fact that no one's ever seen one who isn't a certified lunatic? Do we really need a Satan? Do we really need the help? Every major world faith has answers. Ask yourself if those answers are really good enough and solid enough for you. Are you willing to blindly accept what's handed on a silver platter? It might be nothing but fluff. Opinions. It's all about opinions. Keep quiet about them. Repect the opinions of others, even if you think they're a bunch of loathesome @#%$-barnacles who can't see straight. Don't forget why you respect them; they're people too and have actual feelings. Don't forget anything if you can help it. Remember things. They'll be important later. Memories are what will keep you through the rough endings. Bring yourself back to life with a glass of water. Or lemonade. Or whiskey. Just be careful and don't overdo it. Moderation is the key to success in all things. Don't be a narcissistic fucktard. Your body image means nothing to me. Or the people next door to me. Your appearance means even less. If you're nothing other than fun to look at, what good are you? Give away your possessions. They're inherently worthless. Share money. Share food. Don't hoard anything. Work in a homeless shelter. You're more likely to find the truth in life there than practically anywhere else. Drink of the sun. Bathe in the sun. Run in the light. Remember that it's always darkest just before dawn. Hope. Read. Listen to your elders. Help them carry their groceries; talk to them. Become a literary figure, and if you can't do that, at least get around your own limits. Books are the key to abolishing ignorance, books and a student willing to learn from them. Learn all you can. Share your knowledge freely, and take comfort in knowing that you're helping others. Be a friend to anyone who wants it, even if they annoy you. Be a friend to your friends, and not a pretend friend. Your truest accomplishments come with the smiles you bring to others; in the writings that bring solace and hope as they remember you. Write. Try to express yourself with words; words are all we have. Learn to play a musical instrument. Don't forget how later. Keep it up. Never give up. Don't give in either. Fight for your right to be expressive and free and unadulterated with the bullshit hyped-up pseudo-intellectual corn-pone opinions that stain our times. Read different newspapers; get multiple points of view and then come to your own decision as to who's more "correct." Don't let the media push you around like a wooden doll. Be content with what life gives you. Be willing to strive for more. Be ready to accept the impossibilities, be joyful in those things you can accomplish, and above all, be.
